For the uninitiated, melons are a type of fruit that belong to the gourd family. Watermelons, cantaloupes, honeydews, and casaba melons are all types of melons. These fruits are typically round or oval in shape and have a hard outer rind. The flesh of a melon is usually very sweet and juicy. Melons are native to Africa and Asia but today they are grown all over the world.
Did you know that watermelons are actually 92% water? Talk about refreshing! And did you know that honeydews get their name from the fact that bees love to drink their sweet nectar? As for cantaloupes, they get their name from the Italian city of Cantalupo where they were first grown.
