July 31
National Avocado Day happens on Wednesday July 31, 2024.
Raise your hand if you love avocados! Today is National Avocado Day, and we are here to celebrate all things green and creamy. From its humble beginnings as a trendy foodie fad to its current status as a beloved breakfast staple, the avocado has come a long way. Let’s take a closer look at this amazing fruit.
An avocado is a pear-shaped fruit with green or blackish skin and a large seed in the center. Avocados are native to Mexico and Central America, but they now grow in warm climates all over the world. The two most common types of avocados are the Haas avocado and the Florida avocado.
The Haas avocado is small and has dark, bumpy skin. It is named after Rudolph Haas, who developed it in California in the 1930s. The Florida avocado is larger and has smooth, bright green skin. It was first grown in Florida in the late 1800s.
There are hundreds of different kinds of avocados, but only a few are grown commercially. In addition to the Haas and Florida varieties, other popular types of avocados include the Bacon avocado, the Fuerte avocado, and the Lorena avocado.
Whether you love them on toast, in guacamole, or straight up with a spoon, there’s no denying that avocados are delicious. So today, let’s take a moment to appreciate this amazing fruit on National Avocado Day. And if you’re feeling extra festive, why not whip up a batch of guacamole or some avocado toast to enjoy? Trust us, your taste buds will thank you!
