July 21
National Ice Cream Day happens on Sunday July 21, 2024.
National Ice Cream Day is a holiday that is celebrated in the United States on the third Sunday of July. It is a day to enjoy your favorite flavor of ice cream and to celebrate this delicious treat! But where did this holiday come from? Let’s take a brief look at the history of National Ice Cream Day.
National Ice Cream Day actually has its roots in the early days of our country. In 1776, when our founding fathers were busy fighting for independence, George Washington declared that ice cream would be served at a state dinner at Mount Vernon. It was such a hit with his guests that he became known as “the father of ice cream.”
In 1984, President Ronald Reagan declared July to be National Ice Cream Month and National Ice Cream Day to be the third Sunday of the month. He did this in order to recognize the contributions of the ice cream industry to the economy. The ice cream industry generates billions of dollars in revenue each year and employs thousands of people.
Since then, National Ice Cream Day has been celebrated each year with parties, parades, and, of course, plenty of ice cream! So whether you like your ice cream plain or topped with chocolate sauce, make sure to enjoy a scoop (or two) on Sunday in honor of this American tradition.
National Ice Cream Day is a fun holiday that celebrates one of America’s favorite desserts! Whether you like your ice cream plain or topped with sprinkles, make sure to enjoy a scoop on Sunday. And if you’re feeling really adventurous, try making your own ice cream at home! There’s nothing quite like enjoying a bowl of homemade ice cream on a hot summer day.
