Celebrating National Peanut Day – And What You Can Do with Peanuts!
Every year on September 13th, we celebrate National Peanut Day. It’s a day to recognize the deliciousness of one of our favorite snacks – the peanut! Whether you like them raw, roasted, or in a sauce, peanuts are one of those treats that just never gets old. But did you know that there’s more to peanuts than eating them? Let’s take a look at some of the other uses for this remarkable little legume.
Crafting with Peanuts
The first thing that might come to mind when thinking about crafting with peanuts is making a good ol’ fashioned bird feeder. This is an easy and fun project for all ages – just string together some popsicle sticks and use peanut butter as glue to hold them together. Then fill it up with birdseed and watch as your feathered friends flock over! You can also use peanuts to make jewelry by stringing together empty shells and gluing them onto a necklace chain or bracelet. The possibilities are endless!
Peanut Oil
Peanut oil has many uses aside from cooking. For starters, it’s great for deep-frying food because it has a high smoke point (the temperature at which oil starts smoking). The smoke point also makes it ideal for sautéing vegetables since they won’t burn easily in peanut oil. You can even use it as an all-natural alternative to commercial skin creams and moisturizers! The oil contains Vitamin E which helps keep skin hydrated, smooth, and soft. Plus, it’s non-greasy so you don’t have to worry about leaving behind any oily residue on your face or body after applying it topically.
DIY Projects
Use peanut shells to make homemade plant holders or planters using hot glue and paint or markers. You can also use the shells as mulch in your garden since they contain nutrients that are beneficial for plants – they will help retain soil moisture while breaking down into organic matter over time.
It’s always fun to celebrate National Peanut Day each year by appreciating the versatility of this tasty little snack food. From crafting projects to DIY solutions around the house, there are plenty of ways you can put peanuts to work outside of eating them! So why not grab yourself some peanuts today and get creative? Who knows what amazing things you’ll come up with! Happy National Peanut Day everyone!
