August 7
National Raspberries ’N Cream Day happens on Wednesday August 7, 2024.
Today is National Raspberries ‘N Cream Day, and we couldn’t be more excited! This delicious flavor combo has been around for centuries, and we think it’s about time it gets the recognition it deserves. In honor of this special day, let’s take a look at the history of raspberries ‘n cream.
The first recorded mention of raspberries ‘n cream dates all the way back to 16th century England. At that time, however, the dish was known as “red whortleberry cream.” It wasn’t until much later that the dish became known by its current name. Some believe that the name change happened because of the popularity of a 18th century nursery rhyme called “Little Miss Muffet.” In the rhyme, Little Miss Muffet eats “curds and whey” with a bowl of red raspberries.
Of course, nowadays you’re just as likely to find raspberries ‘n cream in a pie or cake as you are in a bowl of curds and whey. (Though we have to say, the traditional English dish sounds pretty tasty!) Raspberries ‘n cream pies and cakes are especially popular in the summertime, when raspberries are in season. If you’re looking for a delicious summer dessert, why not give one of these recipes a try?
