November 24
National Sardine Day happens on Sunday November 24, 2024.
If you’re a fan of food, you’ll want to mark November 24th on your calendar. Why? Because it’s National Sardines Day! What better way to celebrate the day than by using sardines in some fun and creative recipes? Don’t worry if you don’t have much experience with this fishy ingredient because we have plenty of recipes that are sure to impress.
This simple dish is easy to make and can be enjoyed as an appetizer or main course. Start by sautéing onions in olive oil until they become golden brown. Add garlic, capers, tomato sauce, and seasonings of your choice. Simmer the sauce until it thickens before adding the sardines. Cook them for another 5 minutes before serving them warm over a bed of cooked rice or with bread.
This pate is rich and creamy thanks to its combination of sardines, cream cheese, mayonnaise, garlic powder, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce. Start by combining all ingredients in a food processor before transferring the mixture into a bowl. To give it additional flavor, serve it with sliced red onions before serving with crackers or toast points.
Sometimes keeping things simple is the best approach when cooking with sardines. Start by marinating sardines in olive oil, lemon juice, garlic powder, oregano leaves, salt & pepper for about 30 minutes then grill them over medium heat until they turn golden brown and flaky. Serve the grilled sardines in tacos with salsa verde and shredded cabbage for an added crunch!
Whether you choose one of our recipes or create something new entirely, there are plenty of ways to enjoy National Sardine Day! So grab some cans (or fresh) sardines from your local grocery store and get cooking – it’s time to celebrate one of nature’s most delicious gifts!
