August 18
National Fajita Day happens on Sunday August 18, 2024.
It’s that time of year again! Time to celebrate all things fajita related with National Fajita Day. This delicious holiday falls on August 18th, so make sure you mark your calendars and clear your schedules because it’s going to be a day full of sizzling fun!
For those who may not know, a fajita is a Mexican dish that typically consists of grilled meat (usually chicken, beef, or shrimp) served on a warm tortilla with peppers and onions. The word “fajita” actually comes from the Spanish word “faja” which means “belt” or “girdle”. This is in reference to the skirt steak that was originally used to make fajitas.
It’s believed that fajitas first made their appearance in Texas in the 1930s. However, it wasn’t until the 1970s that they really started to gain popularity. It was during this decade that Tex-Mex restaurants started serving fajitas as a main dish instead of just an appetizer. This led to the dish becoming more mainstream and eventually making its way into American culture.
Nowadays, there are all sorts of different types of fajitas. While the traditional recipe calls for grilled meat, peppers, and onions served on a tortilla, there are now endless variations of this dish. For example, you can find recipes for vegetarian fajitas, fish fajitas, and even dessert fajitas!
So how can you celebrate National Fajita Day? Well, there are lots of different ways! You could try your hand at making your own fajitas at home using your favorite recipe. Or you could go out to eat at your local Mexican restaurant and enjoy some delicious fajitas made by someone else.
Another great way to celebrate would be to have a fajita party! Invite over some friends, crank up the grill, and have a blast cooking (and eating!) together. Whatever you do, just make sure you enjoy some yummy fajitas on August 18th in honor of National Fajita Day!
